1. How do I contract Joanne's services? What are the agreements involved, e.g. deposit?

You may contract Joanne's services in person, by phone, email or regular mail. Please see the “Contact Us” page. Photos of the subjects are sent by the customer or taken by her when time and location permit. These reference photos are negotiated for suitability with her. Other details of the proposed product are discussed, e.g., the size, background color, material to be used, completion date, and total cost. A non-refundable deposit must be made and received to begin the work.

2. What does Joanne need to create the portrait I want?

To create the portrait you want, Joanne requires clear photos of the subject or subjects, information about them, and any other details included in the painting.

3. How do I reach Joanne?

You can reach her by phone, email, and mail. Please click on the "Contact Us" page.

4. Can I consult with Joanne during the process?

All consultation is done at the beginning of the work with a final say in some minor adjustments at the time of completion.

5. How long does a portrait take to produce?

A portrait of a single subject usually takes about 2 weeks to complete. Joanne's schedule and workload dictates the completion date.

6. How much does a portrait cost?

The cost of creating and shipping each portrait varies and is calculated on an individual basis. Factors such as size of the painting, number of subjects, art mediums used, and shipping costs determine each individual estimate. Taxes and currency exchange rates may also factor in. A non-refundable deposit must be made to begin the work.

The cost of the portrait is calculated based on the size of the painting and the number of subjects it contains. For example, a 9” x 12” single subject portrait costs $500.00 CAD and any additional subjects cost $250.00 CAD each. Therefore, a 9” x 12” portrait featuring two subjects costs $750.00. This cost does not include matting and framing, which is the responsibility of the customer.

7. Does the size of the portrait affect the cost?

Again, each portrait is unique and must be calculated individually. See the above example.

8. Who pays for the shipping of the materials for the portrait and the finished work?

All shipping is an additional cost to the customer.

9. What if I have concerns about the finished product? What reasonable recourse do I have?

If the customer has concerns about the finished product, it may be returned for minor adjustments or permanently returned with the loss of the non-refundable deposit. However, in Joanne's experience, this is a rarity; rather, people acquire a deeper appreciation for the spirit of the subjects that emit from these hand-drawn works.

10. How can I pay for the work? Cash? Credit card?

The work can be paid by cash, cheque, or money order.

11. How long has Joanne been painting and doing artwork?

Joanne has been drawing realistically since early childhood. Joanne has tried many types or drawing and painting but always come back to realism. See Joanne's biography for more details.

  12. What art mediums or materials does Joanne use and why?

Joanne uses the most appropriate mediums to fit the subjects and their environment. The majority of her work at the present time consists of chalk pastel and pastel paper of varying types to achieve the softness and realistic textures. She also uses watercolour, acrylic, and qouache (an opaque watercolour) when appropriate. She seldom uses oil paints; however, under special circumstances may do so depending on the subject. Oil paints also increase the cost of the painting. Also see Joanne's biography.

  13. How does Joanne make the paintings come "alive"?

Joanne is not really sure how it happens, but only knows when the spirit of the subject moves into the painting. However, it is important to have a realistic base for the spirit to move into, so the painting comes alive. Also see Joanne's biography.
